Pregnancy Care (Pre and Postpartum)

PRE

So you want to have a baby?

We advise that you should give yourself at least 3 months preparation before you start

Here are some of the tips and steps we advise:

  • Blood test from your GP
  • Ultrasound: Pelvic Scan to asses uterus/ovaries/fallopian tubes, search for any Fibroids/cysts
  • A check up with a Gynecologist

Now that you have all this information, we can address any concerns that have come up.

We will use this information and help with the following:

  • Advise on nutritional and supplement support.
  • We are big advocates for folate and other supplements essential for you to conceive and help develop a healthy baby.
  • We also network with some very successful, educated and quality Naturopaths, who can assist further if there are Fibroids, cysts, Polycystic ovaries, Endometriosis etc
  • With the use of the Neuro-emotional technique, help alleviate stress and get your mind and body ready for having a baby
  • Chiropractic Adjustments to align the spine and free the nervous system for optimal body function and development
  • Acupuncture to alleviate stress and get your body ready to conceive.

What you can do?

Have fun with you partner! Go away together, book a holiday, enjoy quality time with one another and love one another. There is only a small window frame for pregnancy however the more you are intimate and happy with you partner, the higher your chances.

Third trimester

  • Chiropractic care and soft tissue releases to the pelvis, Lumbar spine, pelvic ligaments and pelvic muscles to help baby get into the ideal position and open the uterus.
  • If baby is breeched, Adjustments and acupuncture can help assist baby into a better position.
  • Pelvic alignment is also essential for labour, the more open the pelvis, the easier it is for a natural delivery.
  • Acupuncture can also help induce labour, if required

POST

There is very little care for women after the birth of their baby, but it is something that is pertinent.

Women’s bodies have gone through a massive transformation for the past 9months and the delivery in most cases has been traumatic.

Repair and restoration of the body starts immediately after delivery and it may take one month to 3 months for the body to get back to a more comfortable pain free position.

To help with the recovery and aid the healing process Chiropractic/Acupuncture and massage can be performed to speed up the recovery.

Along with the alignment of the body, there is Post Partum massage that is done in most Eastern medicine, to the abdomen to help re-shape and put the organs back into their rightful positions.

At Northmead Family chiropractic, Dr Hardip Kaur has learnt this technique which is called releasing the “Dharan” in the Punjabi language.

Post partum massage should only be done on ladies who have had a natural birth and needs to be done carefully and gently. Women who have delivered via a c-section can get this massage generally after one month post partum.
